Deep Paint with Texture Weapons Review
Before
After
Deep Paint 3D with Texture weapons is a product all serious 3D artists should have in their arsenal.
Installation couldn't have been simpler! It found my Max and Photoshop plugins directories, and reported that it couldn't find my softimage or Maya programs (since I don't have any).
The only confusing part concerned the registration licencing. Registation is online, and you need to wait for an email with the activation code. An email arrived immedietly, however it simply reiterated the CD serial numbers, and did not contain the Order number which was required.
An email to RightHemisphere explaining my dilema was answered within a day, containing the proper numbers.
The Documentation consisted of two manuals - an Introduction and Getting Started Guide, plus a 141 page Tutorials manual. Both are well written, and provide all the information you could hope for. A quick scan of the Introduction, and a couple of hours running through some tutorials, and I felt I knew enough to be dangerous!
The Interface is intuitive, and familiar. If you are comfortable with PhotoShop, you will find many similarities.
You work in one of 3 modes. 3D - where you paint directly onto your 3D models. 2D ½ - where you paint on a flat canvas with bump and shine for a 3D textured look, and 2D - allowing you to directly paint on the unwrapped UV maps. The 2D ½ is like Photoshop on steriods! Not only do you have the incredible selection of brushes, textures and effects that come with Deep Paint with Texture Weapons, but also your full set of Photoshop plugins are right there in the menu. You can also seemlesly move the image you are working on between Deep Paint with Texture Weapons and photoshop with the click of a button. The 2D ½ features alone are worth the price!
3D Texturing with Deep Paint with Texture Weapons was an exciting adventure! After putting aside the tutorial manual, and closing example files - I was ready to test the mettle of this program. I started by importing the P4 Male OBJ file from Poser. It came in as a dull grey figure (see before above). Now the fun began! My poor Poser fellow got seriously mauled in no time, with Elephant skin, metal plates in his head, and a thick green muckus oozing from his nostrils. OK, so I could make a mutant snot nosed cyborg from Mars - but what about a realist face? After clearing the mutant layers away - I proceeded within about 15 minuets to make the image on the right above! Impressed? I am!
As a PlugIn for Max and Photoshop Deep Paint with Texture Weapons worked fine. Inside Max I created a simple object - found Deep Paint in the Utilities panel and clicked the button. Deep Paint with Texture Weapons opened up, with my model waiting for me to add some magic. A single click inside Deep Paint with Texture Weapons sent me back to Max with it's new paint job! Way cool!
My Conclusion If you don't have Deep Paint with Texture Weapons yet, don't put it off - order it today! Regardless of your primary 3D platform, Deep Paint with Texture Weapons will give your models, scenes, and animations a whole new level of realism!
